Tulsa Association of Legal Assistants
Welcome to the Tulsa Association of Legal Assistants

The Tulsa Association of Legal Assistants (TALA) was formed in June 1982 for the purpose of providing a forum for legal education and professional growth for Tulsa area legal assistants/paralegals and in furtherance of the delivery of quality legal services.

TALA is striving to further define its position in the legal community by offering its members education, ethical guidelines local law-related news, social contact and an opportunity for professional growth.

NALA Affiliate

TALA is an affiliate of the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA), which has a present national membership representing all fifty states. NALA provides continuing education, professional development and certification programs for the career field.

TALA chose to affiliate with NALA recognizing that NALA's goals and purposes were sound and representative of its own aspirations. Among these goals are:

  • The promotion of the profession of legal assistants/paralegals, education of the public for the advancement and improvement of the profession, and broadening public understanding of the legal assistant concept;
  • Cooperation with local, state and national bar associations in setting standards for legal assistants/paralegals;
  • The establishment of a national, voluntary certification program; and
  • Informing its members through continuing legal education.

CLA Certification

NALA has developed a certification program for those legal assistants wishing to demonstrate their standard of competence. The Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) examination is an extensive two day examination certifying that the successful participant possesses a well-rounded, comprehensive understanding of the legal system, legal procedures, and substantive law.

TALA has developed a study program to be utilized in preparation for this CLA Examination. For more information, please write TALA.

Additionally, NALA has specialty examinations that are administered at least twice yearly, in conjunction with the CLA examination. Many of TALA's members have already achieved the prestigious CLA and CLAS designations.
